Musical Director John Buckley

Musical Director John Buckley began his career as a musician in the Air Force, winning numerous prizes for conducting, leadership and management. Subsequently appointed to the prestigious position of Commanding Officer of the Air Command Band he led performances at the 2000 Sydney Olympic and Paralympic Games, Federation Celebrations, on deployment in East Timor and at the ANZAC Day commemorations held at Gallipoli in 2002.

In 2004, John's conducting skills won him a place on the Symphony Australia Conductor Programme; a programme established to nurture and showcase talented Australian conductors, which resulted in an invitation to conduct both the Queensland and Adelaide Symphony Orchestras. More recently, he has mentored post-graduate students at the Australian Institute of Music and has conducted world and Australian premiers of new works for wind ensembles by new and promising composers.

He currently conducts Sydney Wind Symphony and is a sought after guest conductor, clinician, adjudicator and performer.
